New Surge Trap and Surge Switch Added to Product Family

With the addition of two new products - Surge Trap and Surge Switch - Ferraz Shawmut now offers a complete family of surge suppression devices.

Surge Trap
Ferraz Shawmut's new Surge Trap is a modular, DIN-rail-mounted, transient-voltage surge suppressor designed to limit over-voltages that can damage sensitive electronic devices. It uses the patented TPMOV system to provide both sustained over-voltage thermal runaway protection and shorted MOV protection. Surge Trap is also the only DIN-rail-mounted surge suppression system that carries an interrupting rating.

Surge Switch
Our Surge Switch is a high-performance, manually operated, non-fused switch that's extremely compact. Specifically developed to withstand the high surge current (220kA with an 8x20 µs waveform) seen in today's transient-voltage surge protection device (SPD) applications, it also features a unique design that actually clamps contacts tighter during a surge.

VSP MOV Protector
Ferraz Shawmut surge suppression fuses are specially designed to protect TVSS systems. They withstand 8x20 µSec surge pulses without opening to allow the TVSS system to react to the surge.

TPMoV Thermally Protected MOV
Our TPMOV fuse eliminates the failure characteristics of metal-oxide varistors. Composed of a voltage-clamping device and a disconnecting apparatus that monitors the status of the metal-oxide disk, it disconnects the disk from system power when it approaches breakdown, whether the breakdown is the result of sustained over-voltages or aging caused by repetitive surges.
